Snail, Spedens Land
Powelliphanta spedeni spedeni. A Spedens Land Snail, brown in colour with parts of the exterior dimpled. Interior has had cotton wool inserted. Situated in a cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "P. spedeni spedeni (Powell, 1932) / Dome, Mataura Range, Southland, / 3000ft".
This subspecies is found at Mataura Range, Southland, South Island. It is one of the large land carnivorous snails that eats earthworms. They are endemic to New Zealand. Little is known about the species and their population status but they are susceptible to habitat loss and predation.
