Powelliphanta gilliesi aurea. A Gillies' Land Snail, brown in colour with stripes. Interior has had cotton wool inserted. Situated in a cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "P. gilliesi aurea (Powell, 1946) / In bush below bluffs, above / Mangarakau settlement". A96.898 is also contained in this box.

This subspecies is found at Mangarakau West Nelson , South Island. It is a large carnivorous snails that eats earthworms, insects, and other snails. It is in decline and susceptible to habitat loss and predation. Little is known about this species.
