Description
Powelliphanta hochstetteri obscura. A Hochstetter Land Snail brown in colour with a striped pattern. Interior has had cotton wool inserted and the end of the shell is cracked. One part has broken away completely. Situated in a cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "P. hochstetteri obscura (Beutler, 1901) / D'Urville Island". A96.880 is also contained in this box.

This subspecies is found in the Marlborough sounds, South Island. It is a large carnivorous snails that eats earthworms, insects, and other snails. It is in decline and susceptible to habitat loss and predation. Little is known about this species.
