Snail, Superb Land

Description
Powelliphanta superba richardsoni. A Superb Land Snail, dull brown in colour. On the bottom side there are brown spots. End of shell has an indentation. Interior has an inserted piece of white paper, handwritten in ink, that reads "PARYPHANTA / SUPERBA RICHARDSON / GOULAND DOWNS / NELSON". Situated in a small cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "P. superba richardsoni (Powell, 1946 / Perry's Pass, near Blue Duck Creek, Gouland Downs". Another piece of paper in the same manner reads "Wangamoa Saddle / Marlborough". A96.865 is also contained in this box.

This subspecies is found in the South Island near Perry's pass in Gouland Downs, West Nelson. It is a large carnivorous snail eating earthworms, insects and other snails. It is nationally endangered being susceptible to habitat loss and predation by introduced pest. Little is known about the species.
