Snail, Superb Land

Description
Powelliphanta superba superba. A Superb Land Snail, khaki green in colour. Interior is hollow, inserted with a piece of white paper, handwritten in ink, that reads "Paryphanta superba [underlined] / Powell / Cedar Creek Ridge, / 2500-3000 ft. S.E. of / Collingwood, West Nelson / (Very scarce. Found around tussock clumps. I have put in a whole day without finding one and four is the maximum number I have ever found on one trip)". Situated in a small cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "P. superba / (Powell, 1930) / Cedar Creek Ridge, W.Nelson". A96.863 is also contained in this box.

This subspecies is part of the large carnivorous land snails. It is found in the South Island in the Cedar creek , west Nelson area. They eat earthworms, insects and other snails. They are nationally endangered being susceptible to habitat loss and predation by introduced pest.
