Snail, Woodformed Land

Powelliphanta lignaria ruforadiata. A Woodformed Land Snail, striped in brown tones. Interior has had cotton wool and a piece of white paper inserted. (Due to badly broken end of shell, reluctant to remove to read). Situated in a small cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "P. lignaria ruforadiata (Powell, 1949) / Upper Mokihinui R.". A96.849 is also contained in this box.

This subspecies is found in the south Island in seddonville, Northern Westland. It is recorded from Upper Mokihinui River. It is a large carnivorous snail eating earthworms, insects and other snails. It is listed as nationally endangered but little is known about the species.
