Snail, Woodformed Land

Powelliphanta lignaria unicolorata. A Woodformed Land Snail, dark brown tones with part of the exterior shell chipped away, revealing white underneath. Interior has had cotton wool inserted. Situated in a small cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "P. lignaria unicolorata (Powell, 1930) / Up valley past Seddonville Hotel, near bank of Mokihinui R.". A96.847 is also contained in this box.

This subspecies is found in the South Island in Northern westland. It is carnivorous eating earthworms, insects and other small snails. It is nationally vulnerable due to habitat destruction and predation by pest.
