Description
Powelliphanta lignaria lignaria. A Woodformed Land Snail, striped chestnut brown and black on top and tan and black underneath. The end of the hollow shell has been damaged, with numerous cracks evident. Interior has had cotton wool inserted. Situated in a small cardboard box with a white label with black printed text that reads "Paryphanta lignaria lignaria (Hutton, 1888) / In bracken and dead punga fronds, near / Mokihinui R., on road to Karamea".

It is a subspecies found in the south island in Northern westland area. It is carnivorous eating earthworms, insects and other snails. It is a vulnerable due to habitat destruction and predation by introduced pest.
