This
is
the
smallest
of
the
snipe
species
in
New
Zealand.
It
is
restricted
to
a
few
islands
only
a
fraction
of
its
original
range.
Rats
and
cats
have
been
a
threat
to
the
snipe
eradicating
them
from
much
of
their
home
range.
They
survive
on
islands
that
have
been
eradicated
of
cats.
