Nest, Chaffinch

Description
Chaffinch nest (Fringilla coelebs gengleri) - small and made from moss, wool, hair and rootlets. Dishevelled clump to one side of nest. Lichen decorates outside edge. Cup lined with hair and feathers. Small paper note inside nest with following text handwritten in faded ink on it: "Found ? ? ? bush / at Wharimu, Egmont 1930 / no eggs in it. Find out if / hedge sparrow, or what it is". In fair condition. Blanche Halcombe Collection.
