This shirt was purchased in February 1992 from a stall in Whangamomona during Republic Day celebrations. Back in 1989 bureaucratic bungling saw Whangamomona realigned with Wanganui, instead of Taranaki. The locals got a bit upset. A special meeting over a few beers at the pub resulted in Whangamomona declaring itself a republic. Republic Day has now become a regular event.
