This trophy was presented to Chew Chong in 1889 for the best 500kg of export butter at the South Seas' Exhibition in Dunedin. The butter was manufactured at Chong's Jubilee dairy factory on the banks of the Waingongoro River at Eltham. The award confirmed that this enterprise was one of the best in the country. Named for Queen Victoria’s 50th Jubilee, the factory was set up in 1887, after Chong had made an unsuccessful attempt to export barrels of butter to Britain. It quickly set the standard for dairy factory cleanliness and quality of product.
