Description
Waxeye (Zosterops lateralis lateralis). Very small, delicate bird. Crown, nape and rump tinged with green. Back grey. Ring of small white feathers around eye. Lesser median and greater wing coverts green. Primary coverts dark grey edged with green. Primaries and secondaries very dark grey tinged green on outer edges. Tail feathers dark grey with outer edges green except for outermost feathers. Breast grey, belly white. Dark eyes. In fairly good condition. Unmounted.

Silvereyes are self colonisers from Australia, arriving in 1850s. They are now common and widespread throughout NZ. Although the department of conservation do not need to directly work on the protection of silvereyes the birds benefit from the work DoC does for other species.
