Description
Welcome Swallow (Hirundo tahitica neoxena). Small, slender, streamlined bird with rounded head, long pointed wings, and deeply forked tail. Forehead rufous. Upper surface predominantly brown. Throat and breast chestnut. Remainder of under surface greyish white. Mounted with wings spread behind. Mouth open. Loosely mounted via a piece of wire onto a short stick inserted into a dark coloured piece of square wood. In fair condition.

This species was self-introduced from Australia in the late 1950s and increased in numbers since. They often build mud nest around buildings and bridges. They have benefited from land clearing more than most native birds.
