Nestling - fluffy. Crown, median area of upper surface and patches on wing and side are brown. Remainder of bird white. Bill black with white tip. Mounted on a small piece of varnished wood (coloured brown).

It is a widespread duck inhabiting lowland wetlands, and grasslands. It is a game bird but their numbers are so high they are not at conservation risk. They are often seen in pairs making lots of noise.
