New Zealand Falcon (Falco novaeseelandiae). Upper surface blackish brown; the tail has fine white bars. Fore neck white; the remainder of the undersurface is streaked brown with spots of orangey white. Thighs rufous brown.

The New Zealand falcon are capable of flying upto 100km/h. They can catch prey larger than themselves. It is endemic to New Zealand on both the North and South Island. They are threatened by introduced predators and habitat loss. However, its been noted that Pine plantations have become important breeding sites in the absence of the native forest.
