Description
Sterling silver tea pot with a hinged lid. The tea pot is basically rectangular in shape with a brown handle at one end and a broad based spout at the other. There is a single scroll on the top of the handle and a rectangular wooden knob on the lid. There are upside down "V" shaped cut outs around outside edge of knob. The tea pot rests on four small ball feet and there is decoration around the upper edge of the pot. Five hallmarks stamped on one side: The maker's mark (M & H Co. Ltd); a crown; a lion passant; date letter (K); and commemorative mark (Queen Elizabeth II). Dated 1953. Has "MADE IN ENGLAND" engraved on underside of base. "Presented by the citizens to / Mr & Mrs E.R.C. Gilmour / IN APPRECIATION OF LONG SERVICE TO NEW PLYMOUTH / MAYOR 1932 - 1953". is also engraved on the tea pot.
