Male. Head, back and sides of neck, upper part of back and distal part of tail sooty brown. Wings sooty brown on margins and on the tips of some feathers, remainder white. Under surface white with some brown spots on neck.

Cape pigeon are a native bird. They are fairly uncommon. There are two subspecies, one from Antarctica and one that breeds of Snares and surrounding island. They are often seen following ships scavenging the scraps.
