Description
A framed New Zealand Medal. The silver medal features a left facing crowned profile of Queen Victoria on the obverse. " VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F.D " is marked around the edge of the profile. A wreath is featured on the reverse with " NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR " marked around the edge of it. The medal, which is missing most of its ribbon, is in a black frame behind clear glass. A black and white silhouette of Devenish is above the medal. " William Devenish / 1819-1866 / Landed at Taranaki / from "Timandra" Feb. 1842 / Recipient New Zealand War Medal. / Member Taranaki Provincial Council / 1866, representing Grey and Bell / constituency. / Chairman, first New Plymouth / Town Board, 1866. / Married, Mary, daughter of Thomas Hirst" is handwritten in black ink on card. " Pvte. William Devenish Taranaki Militia. " is marked on the medal. It has been mounted so the obverse is visible.
