Description
Oil on canvas painting commemorating the captain of the Arawa waka who died in the Te Moehau Ranges, Coromandel Peninsula. Features black and white lozenge patterns at the top and bottom. The lozenge patterns are representative of a traditional tukutuku pattern Roimata Toroa (tears of the albatros). This pattern represents the grief. In the centre is an abstract representation of the Te Moehau Ranges (where the Captain of the Arawa waka, Kapua, died) in two shades of red and white.
