Description
A Fourth Model Tranter .450 calibre percussion revolver with foliate decoration and a two piece chequered wooden grip. " No. 14622 T " is marked on the right hand side of the frame. " Tranter / Patent " is marked on the left hand side of the frame - just to the front of the trigger and below the chamber. " Henry Challener 61 King St West Sydney New South Wales" is marked along the top of the barrel. A hole has been drilled in the grip. The grip is broken.

While the early history of this revolver is currently unknown the markings on it indicate it was retailed by Henry Challener of Sydney. The hole in the grip is also an indication that it was used by the Armed Constabulary at some point. One possible explanation is that the revolver was bought by a settler in Sydney, who then took it with him to New Zealand and ended up in the Armed Constabulary.
