Description
A small rectangular wooden case with a glass front containing seven silver and four gold medallions on a black velvet background. Five of the silver medallions were awarded in 1906 by the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The other two were awarded in 1901 by the same association. All four gold medallions were awarded by the Taranaki Agricultural Society in 1911, 1913, 1916, and 1918. A brief description of the seven silver medallions follows:
1. Circular medallion depicting a horse standing next to a tree fern and enclosed within a wreath. Surmounted with a royal crown. Awarded in 1906 for Class 283 Rolled bacon - green.
2. Circular medallion depicting a raised ram's head (with curled horns) enclosed within a wreath and surmounted with a royal crown. Awarded in 1906 for Class 277 Side of bacon - smoked.
3. Circular medallion depicting a horses head enclosed within a wreath and surmounted by a royal crown. Awarded in 1901 Best green side of bacon.
4. Circular medallion depicting a raised horses head enclosed within a wreath and surmounted by a royal crown. Awarded in 1906 for Class 279 side of bacon - green.
5. Circular medallion depicting a horses head enclosed within a wreath and surmounted by a royal crown. Awarded in 1901 for Best rolled bacon - green.
6. Circular medallion depicting a crown in the centre. Awarded in 1906 for best ham - smoked.
7. Circular medallion depicting a bull standing by a tree fern (same setting as the horse by a tree fern) enclosed within a wreath and surmounted with a royal crown. Awarded in 1906 for class 281 Rolled bacon - smoked.
The four gold medallions are as follows:
1. Square, squat, cross-paty with scroll-like engraving on arms and "Taranaki Agricultural Society" engraved within a circle centre front. Engraved on back: "Inglewood Bacon Co. Best display of factory products / 1911."
2. Circular medallion with a Baroque shaped shield at centre front - engraved on which is an intertwined "T", "A", "S" (Taranaki Agricultural Society). Engraved on back; "Inglewood Co-op Bacon Co. Ltd. Display Hams ad Bacon / 1916".
3. Shield shaped medallion with a Late English shaped shield centre front enclosed within a wreath. Engraved on central shield: ""T", "A", "S" (Taranaki Agricultural Society). Engraved on back: "Best display of hams and bacon / Inglewood Bacon Co. Ltd. / 1918."
4. Square, squat, cross-paty with scroll-like engraving on arms and "Taranaki Agricultural Society" engraved within a circle centre front. Engraved on back: "Display of hams and bacon. Inglewood Co-op Bacon Co. / 1913."
Cross-paties are 18ct. The other two are 9ct.
