A soprano Hohner melodica with a green plastic body, a cream plastic mouthpiece and side pieces. There are ten black plastic keys along the top right facing side and fifteen white plastic keys along the other side. " HOHNER / melodica / soprano " is marked in cream text near the mouthpiece. It is held in a green plastic case with grey lining. There is a small carry handle on the case. " Hohner / melodica-soprano " / Made in Germany. " is marked in gold on the case.
Though the melodica is blown, it has a keyboard similar to that of a piano, making it a cheap way to learn keyboard skills without having to buy a piano. Before the advent of cheap electronic keyboards, the melodica was an inexpensive and popular school music instrument, found in most New Zealand classrooms.
