Description
Small, black, leather bound, Holy Bible containing both the Old and the New Testaments - belonged to John Gildroy Grant (VC) of the Hawera Lodge, No. 34. Gold-coloured medallion embossed on front with text reading: "Grand Lodge of Antient Free and Accepted Masons of New Zealand Est 1890." Inside medallion is the lodge's shield surrounded with a laurel wreath. "Holy Bible" is printed in gold-coloured text on upper spine with "Oxford" down below. Piece of paper has been adhered inside front cover giving details (a combination of printed text and handwritten ink) of the owner and lodge to which he belonged. Although fairly worn is in relatively good condition. c.1915.
