Description
An ornate moulded souvenir plate that features a black and white transfer print of the Recreation Grounds in New Plymouth. The plate has a mother-of-pearl and opalescent glaze and a scalloped gold-leafed edge with sprays of gold decoration at intervals. " A Present from Taranaki N.Z. " is printed in black ink in elaborate cursive script that curves downward in the upper half of the plate.
" RECREATION GROUNDS TARANAKI N.Z. " is printed in black ink along the bottom of the transfer image. " BRITANNIA ... PORCELAIN ... WORKS / KARLSBAD / AUSTRIA " is printed in brown ink on the base of the plate. The first line is enclosed on an unfurling banner above a shield form that contains Britannia holding a shield. The last line curves upward beneath the shield.
