Description
A carved totara bedstead with the posts depicting carved figures. Head and footboard convexed at the top, headboard has two lower uncarved slats, footboard has one carved slat, much use of paua shell, the two anchor boards are plain, and there are four metal bolts. Bed on castors.

These totara bed ends took Les Mackie about 1200 hours to carve, using a pocket knife and dental tools. They were featured in the New Zealand Pavilion at the Wembley Commonwealth Exhibition, London in 1924–1925, and were donated to Taranaki Museum in 1961.
