Description
A Tynemouth Medal. The silver medal features a view of a cliff, lighthouse and buildings with a heavy sea breaking against it. A shipwrecked craft is pictured near the base of the cliff with a lifeboat approaching it. " PALMAM QUI MERUIT " and " TYNEMOUTH MEDAL " is marked around the edge of the scene and decorations frame this text. The reverse is framed by a decorative border and features a palm and laurel wreath tied with a bow. " AWARDED / TO / JAMES L MARTIN, / Quartermaster, " S.S. FIFESHIRE" / 1896 / FOR BRAVERY /in SAVING LIFE AT SEA " is marked on the reverse. The medal is attached to a plain blue ribbon by a decorative scrolled suspension bar.
