Monochrome wash depicting a coastal view of New Plymouth with small boat in the left foreground, Marsland Hill Barracks in the middleground and somewhat exagerated mountain range in the right background. Very faded and difficult to decipher handwritten text in sepia ink reads:- "Taranaki from the sea, August, 1856" - bottom right hand corner.
