Description
A small mounted moa skeleton standing on a concrete and wood base. A plaque at the front reads " anomalopteryx didiformis / Mounted from remains found in a cave near Mahoenui on 6th August 1965 and presented to the Taranaki Museum by the Taranaki Caving Club (Inc)." The bones have been coated with varnish and part of the skull has been broken.

This moa skeleton was recovered by members of the Taranaki Caving Club from the "Buttress" entrance of Skyline Cave in the Awakino-Mahoenui district on 6 August 1965. It's identity was confirmed by Ron Scarlett when he was in New Plymouth in October 1967. The skeleton was assembled by members of the Club, and presented by it to the Taranaki Museum on 12 September 1968.
