Description
A Snider Mark III action .577 calibre carbine with a brass nose plate, trigger guard and butt plate. The lock plate is marked with a crown and " 1872 ". A rough copy of a service mark has been carved into the butt.

This is an example of the type of weapon that would have been issued to the New Zealand Police soon after the Armed Constabulary was disestablished in 1886. Genuine war service marks were always stamped and not carved so the rough service mark that is carved on the butt is not authentic.
