A thin, straight bamboo cane with hooked handle. There used to be some kind of a ferrule at the end of the cane but it is missing.

This cane was owned by New Plymouth schoolteacher Ernest Hunter Diack. It is thought to have been used for corporal punishment in schools.
The cane appears to be rattan not bamboo, a quite different material. Rattan is a palm and bamboo a grass. It would be useful to record the dimensions and weight of the artefact. There was a cricketer named Ernest Hunter "Charlie" Diack, perhaps the same man..
