The first working prototype of this design of Rubik's Cube was developed in 1974, but it took until 1977 for the first 'Magic Cube' to be sold in Budapest toy shops. In 1980 the 'Magic Cube' was renamed the Rubik's Cube, and it was during this decade that its popularity as a toy really peaked. It is regarded as one of the highest selling toys of all time, despite how tricky it is to solve! As Erno Rubik, the Rubik's Cube inventor, says, "If you are curious, you'll find the puzzles around you. If you are determined, you will solve them".
