Description
Rubik's cube made from plastic with different coloured stickers attached on the side of each composite cube. Each side is made up of nine composite parts. The aim of the puzzle is to restore the faces of the composite cube to single colours by rotating the constituent smaller cubes. Cubes has six colours - white, blue, red, yellow, green and orange. c.1980.

The
first
working
prototype
of
this
design
of
Rubik's
Cube
was
developed
in
1974,
but
it
took
until
1977
for
the
first
'Magic
Cube'
to
be
sold
in
Budapest
toy
shops.
In
1980
the
'Magic
Cube'
was
renamed
the
Rubik's
Cube,
and
it
was
during
this
decade
that
its
popularity
as
a
toy
really
peaked.
It
is
regarded
as
one
of
the
highest
selling
toys
of
all
time,
despite
how
tricky
it
is
to
solve!
As
Erno
Rubik,
the
Rubik's
Cube
inventor,
says,
"If
you
are
curious,
you'll
find
the
puzzles
around
you.
If
you
are
determined,
you
will
solve
them".
