An blue, green and brown glazed earthenware vase titled " Blue Strata II." The vase is widest at the top opening and tapers down to the base. It is finished with five different coloured glazes and has a glossy black glaze on the rim and the interior.

the
Taranaki
Museum
collection
after
being
judged
the
winner
of
the
New
Plymouth
Potters
exhibition
held
at
the
museum
in
1996.
Kane
made
this
vase
on
a
wheel
and
threw
it
upside
down
so
she
could
achieve
the
thick
rim
without
any
distortion.
"I
have
been
experimenting
with
layering
and
combining
glazes
to
give
texture
and
interest.
Using
blues
and
greens
to
suggest
sea
and
sky,
I
dipped,
brushed
and
sprayed
five
different
glazes
to
the
outside
of
the
vessel
and
a
shiny
black
to
the
inside
and
rim
to
give
contrast,"
Kane
wrote
in
a
note
accompanying
the
vase.
