Description
An 1856 pattern single shot .577 calibre percussion short rifle with a 33 inch barrel and iron butt plate and fittings. The lock plate is marked " T.R. Pritchett " and the grip and stock are finely chequered. There is a six pointed silver star on one side of the butt and a Victorian six pence set in the other. There is a bayonet lug on the barrel.

This is a commercially produced variant of the British military short rifle. It was made by a civilian manufacturer for sale to a military person as a private weapon. It is in its original condition and would have been a very expensive weapon when it was produced.
