Hay Knife

Description
Hay knife with long broad single edged cutting blade that slants to a point at the front. Thick, squared ridge along the top that extends at the back into a short round rod that twists sideways then upwards to form the handle. Has "Shelton and Co-Sheffield" stamped on the blade.

Once harvested, hay was stacked in round stacks with the tops thatched. The hay knife was used to cut away armloads of hay from the stack for feeding cattle. Gifted by Mr K.J. Hancock.
