Epa
Description
Consists of one female figure in frontal position. Head is tilted slightly to right. One arm passes through the lower jaw with the hand resting on the neck. The other arm passes under a leg with the hand at the side of the epa. This leg curls back with the foot resting on the lower body. The other leg curls back with the foot resting near the vulva. Decoration on the figure includes puwerewere, notching and double spirals. The spirals are both plain and with puwerewere. Matakupenga is to be found on the epa above head. Five lashing holes are present on the left side with one on the right side which has a small square block to help with lashing. Also part of the base on the right side is angled upwards presumably to help with lashing. This epa would fit on the right side of a pataka. Carving is shallow.
