Photograph of the first landing place of New Zealand Expeditionary Force, April 25th, 1915. Top of (brown) matting bears:- "16th Waikato Regiment / Scene of first active service / ANZAC - Cove - Gallipoli - Turkey". Below photograph:- "The first landing place of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force. April 25th 1915. In the vacinity [sic] of which the company drawn from the regiment made its first gallant stand. The percentage of casualties for the afternoon 55.3%. With Lieut. J.W. Peake's. Compliments.". Brass plate middle lower edge reads:- "In Memory of Corp W.D. Kemp. Donated by the Kemp Family." Attached to rear is a photocopied death notice for W.D. Kemp; newspaper article on W.D. Kemp and a document from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (War Graves Department) who gave the photograph to the family. It lists W.D. Kemp's Registration number as 12/774; his rank as Corporal; his Unit as being the Auckland Regiment. The photograph was framed by Nayler & Co of Collingwood Street, Hamilton.
