A brass tea urn. It has two wooden side handles, a tap at the front and a chimney at the top. There are Cyrillic letters impressed on top of the main body which read "BADASHEVB 1."
The urn was used in the Officer's Mess at the Marsland Hill barracks in New Plymouth. Although nothing more is known about it, it may have arrived here from Crimea, as some troops who fought in the Taranaki Wars also fought in Crimea against the Russians.
