At the bottom left hand corner of the painting there is a small bush that has many light green and dark green jaggered circular leaves, with darker green strip to emphasis the midrib of the leaves. The flowers are red long and conical in form.
The top branch is Metrosideros carminea, and consists of multiple green and dark green leaves with a strip of brown for the midrib and red bushy flowers with yellow tips and light green centres.
The background is a multitude of blended colours from murky brown along the bottom to a green along the top right hand corner to a brownish red on the left hand side.
