Description
National gathering of Volunteer Forces returning from an exercise at Bell Block. Rows of white bell tents are pictured in the middleground. Figures, many wearing red military jackets, are dotted amongst the tents. River also visible in middleground. Mount Taranaki and ranges are visible behind the encampment. Katere Ki Te Moana kāinga [village] can be seen on the hill in distance. Where the encampment is located has become the Rewarewa reserve. Plaque on frame reads: "Easter Encampment Waiwakaiho 1887 / Troops returning from a fight / At Bell Block / presented to the Taranaki Rifle Volunteers by Mr Halcombe".
