Description
Fragment of map of Taranaki and Waikato regions. The base map is dated 1892; this is crossed out and 1906 is written alongside. Bears the stamp of the N.Z. Lands and Survey Office, overseen by S. Percy Smith, Surveyor General. Shows landscape and locations from Awakino to New Plymouth. Inland areas from Mokau to Whangamomona (missing below) are shown, straddling the confiscation line in the west, and bounded by the Whanganui River in the east and the Auckland Land Line in the north. New survey blocks are coloured, and highlighted with annotated names in black ink spanning land areas (north to south) Mapara, Haupeehi, Puketutu, Ngapuketurua, Tangitu, Otamati, Puhanga, Pukepoto, Taranui, and Whatitokarua. Moving south the names Matire, Mangaroa, and Tuhara are written in red ink and underlined, with mile numbering alongside (measuring distance from south), indicating this was a track.
Scale: 5 miles to 1 inch. No key present.
