Credit line

Gastropods are the largest class of molluscs, with about 80,000 species. Gastropod sea snails that live in tropical seas have plenty of nutrients to feed on, and develop bright, patterned shells which are thick and strong.

A special feature of the predatory Conus species is their ability to sting their prey, using a sharp, harpoon-like tooth charged with poisonous venom.
