Horse mussel

Description
Atrina zelandica. Both valves. Thin brittle shell, which tapers to a point at one end and fans out at the other. Lines of hollow spines. The colour is dark brown to purple with streaks of each. Some of the colour is faded in places. The mussel has accretions along it, probably what's left of the other animals living on it. A small shell can be seen at the edge on one side.
