Hairy mussel
Description
Modiolus areolatus. Single valve. Oval in shape with a pointed tip. The hairy outer covering is removed but some of the brown accretions which the hairs would have grown from remain on the back end of the mussel. Colour is dark brown with a white tip. Inner side is white with a purple stain along the edge.
