Screen, Fire

This fire screen consists of a long, round, tapering rod standing on three curved legs. The rod is knopped where it joins the legs with two smaller knops approximately 1/3 from the bottom, and it is capped with a dome like top. It has a small oval, adjustable frame attached to the rod with two brass rings one of which contains a brass thumbscrew. The frame has a glass front revelling a floral tapestry. The following is inscribed on the back " This cross stitch was worked by Martha Homes at May Hill School, Monmouth, England, about the year 1838".
