This marquetry bowl was made by Leonard Rowe who lived in Conway Road, Eltham, from the 1920s. He was known for his marquetry work which he completed alongside his primary job as a builder. Although little more is known about him, his work is of fine quality. There is a second bowl in the Puke Ariki Heritage collection that is also attributed to Rowe, however it is not stamped with his name on the base, like this one. It is thought that Rowe made this bowl about 1930-1950.
