Description
A journal written by John Bryce during the Bryce V. Rusden Trial. Contains 61 pages of written entries, 6 February 1886 to 9 May 1886. The journal also includes a large number of newspaper clippings from England, Australia and New Zealand covering the trial, including an index to the clippings. The journal also includes excerpts from despatches to and from London and Wellington some handwritten by Bryce.
A seperate copy letter written by Lord Knutsford to Sir W. Jervois, 8 August 1888. Written on a House of Commons letterhead "Copy of Despatch No. 36" acknowledging the receipt of despatch No. 29 of 26 March regarding Bryce V. Rusden and their reasoning for not expressing an official opinion on the case. With John Bryce’s pencilled response in
the margin "This is rich! The predecessor said he could not take action because the matter was sub judice the present minister are not take action because his predecessor did not".
