"Himone Te Auru"
Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of Himone Te Auru of Ngāti Awa. Te Auru appears seated, facing forward and from the knee up. He wears a headband with huia feather, a sash across his chest and piupiu. His hands are in his lap and in his right hand he holds a patu. His hair is short and curly and he had a goatee beard and moustache. Te Auru sits in front of a wall made from raupō and flax fibre, in which a hole features at the top-left corner of the image. The photograph is included on page 62 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith", under the title "Some notorious Hauhaus."
