Description
Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of Pai Mārire apostle Horomona Poropiti of Taranaki. Poropiti appears seated, facing forward. He wears a kaitaka over a woollen shawl and two huia feathers at the front of his head. In his left ear he wears a feathered earring and his right hand is visible at his side. Poropiti wears his greying hair to just below his ears and he has a full white beard. He sits in front of a wall made from raupō and flax fibre. The photograph is included on page 62 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith", under the title "Some notorious Hauhaus."
