Description
Copy of an original carte de visite portrait of West Coast Ngāti Ruanui leader Hone Pīhama Te Rei Hanataua. Pīhama appears standing on a patterned studio floor, facing toward his right. He wears a dark-toned three piece suit, with a waist coat watch chain. His left hand rests in his jacket pocket and his right on a podium, half visible on the left side of the photograph. Behind him, on the right side of the photograph hangs a floor length studio curtain. He has short, dark, wavy hair style in a side part and a large beard and moustache. The photograph is included on page 58 of William Francis Robert Gordon's album "Some "Soldiers of the Queen" who served in the Maori Wars and Other Notable Persons Connected Herewith".
